Braces for Children

When Should Treatment Begin?

At Great Smiles Orthodontics, we offer braces for children as well as braces for teens. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, your child should receive an orthodontic screening by the age of seven.

Even though most orthodontic problems are inherited, early diagnosis and treatment can prevent more serious problems from developing. Most children do not need early treatment, but for those that do, it’s important to get an orthodontic check-up.

Early treatment takes advantage of facial growth and tooth eruption. The old school thought of waiting until all the permanent teeth grow in before taking your child to the orthodontist to get evaluated for braces is not ideal. It may make alternate, less desirable treatment methods necessary. For this reason, it is better for us to evaluate your child earlier than to wait too late. We offer multiple braces for children. The longer you wait, the more limited treatment options become.

We encourage you to take advantage of our complimentary consultation and let us evaluate your child early. We will determine when your child’s treatment should begin to achieve maximum benefit of facial growth and function with the least amount of time and expense.
